Gene Seroka is no stranger to exports of value-added, identity preserved ag products or the flow of imports and inter-reliance on many other factors shippers rely upon for execution of their sales.

As the executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, the busiest container port in North America, Seroka will bring his expertise and poignant insights to Transportation Go! April 8-9 at the InterContinental Hotel on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, where industry leaders will connect to consider opportunities and challenges in the value-added supply chain while also exploring the critical issues shaping the movement of agricultural products domestically and around the world.

Hosted by the United States Identity Preserved Alliance (U.S. Identity Preserved Alliance), formerly known as the Specialty Soya and Grains Alliance, Transportation Go! is the premier conference representing identity preserved, value-added agriculture supply chain stakeholders.

“Gene Seroka’s insights will be invaluable to this year’s Transportation Go! agenda,” said Gary Williams, U.S. Identity Preserved Alliance director of transportation and regulatory affairs. “We’re laying the groundwork for a very important conference.”

Kicking off the conference on April 8, Seroka will call upon his illustrious career in shipping, global logistics and executive management to offer his remarks and answer questions. During his tenure, which began in June 2014, the Port of Los Angeles became the first port in the Western Hemisphere to process 10 million TEUs in a 12-month period and one million TEUs in a single month. Seroka is responsible for managing a $2.6 billion budget, advancing major capital projects, growing trade volume and promoting innovative, sustainable practices that strengthen the region’s economy.

“The view that Gene has from sitting in the Port of Los Angeles gives him unique insights into what is happening live time and as a trend with a great many components in the transportation industry.  His voice is a revealing one for the agriculture supply chain world,” Williams said. “We’re excited to welcome him to Chicago and can’t wait to hear his personal take on a great number of issues and events taking place in transportation today”.

Seroka oversaw the Port’s launch of the first-of-its-kind digital information portal, Port Optimizer, and has championed for ports around the world to share critical supply chain data and analytics. Along with leading the Port’s efforts to reach ambitious goals for zero-emission cargo-handling equipment and heavy-duty trucks over the next decade, Seroka is overseeing the Port’s international green and digital shipping corridor partnerships with China, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam.

Along with Seroka, Transportation Go! will feature Jonathan Gold, National Retail Federation; Patrick Fuchs, Surface Transportation Board; Dwight Robinson, CEO of L.A. Grain; Andy Banfield of Iowa Interstate Rail; Sten Konst, Spliethoff Group; and Brian Oszakiewski, executive director of American Great Lakes Port Association. Additional invitations have been extended to representatives from the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, the Federal Maritime Commission and more.
